Found This Today

 This is my drawing

and this is my photo

I layered them together

some time ago

I have no memory of doing this

but I found it today

I like it

Thought:

I am letting go the structure

that has held me strong.

There is truer strength

in a yellow flower dancing

in the meadow's breeze

So Who Am I

 Directional Mistake

I use to listen to my brain.
Then I found out my brain is not me.
My brain is a machine
running a program.
A program designed to keep me alive
while in use of this body.

So who am I?
I am the true self.
The silent, the stillness.
The light that always burns.
I was there before this life began
and will continue on once this body stops,
but I will no longer be an "I" then.
Knowledge, selfless, no need to be.
Reconnected with the awareness
or love that has always been there.

So as I continue my experience
with this "I" and this body
I need to learn to manage this brain.
To know when to listen to it
and when to disregard its direction.
Also when to silence it
and visit with my true self.

Please Note: the above words are me thinking out loud. I am not telling you the reader what to do or how to live your life. This is my perception of my life at this moment. I am only sharing for the sake of broader understanding for myself and anyone who might share the thought, or one like it. Thanks for reading

the bridge

True colors are not always necessary

The computer provides a trip into the imaginary

While I do like to bend the world this way

I would not want to dwell here everyday

I think it's the pink and the green

Yes it borders on obscene.

Still cool!

Face It

 In every face
I find myself in some way

they are not me
they are not the me I pretend to be

they have the right to their own creation
that they have formed through years of work

but still I find myself in the pretending
we are all pretending

we are good at it
face it

we all start from the same clean slate
and life molds us into the pretending

I am in every face
and you are all in mine

Look
face it

wake up...

I wake up
step into a motion
there is no clarity
I am putting it together
as quickly
as it comes undone
I am good
with not understanding
I have practiced the state
for all the time
I've known life
I've not uncoverd the why
so I keep on working
the doing
and all its
motion
got good
at being in the motion
good with being
a drip
a blob
a swirl
finding my being
in there
way in there
willing to be
every part
at any given moment
this is where
I
wake up
wake up
wake...

One of my paintings photographed and computer enhanced. Below is the same painting enhanced in several different ways, I lost track of which is the original. Think it is the gray one at the bottom, I will need to find it out in the garage to make sure.

The abstract

I like creating abstract art. So much of or lives are defined for us that an abstract visual can offer us a moment of freedom. It is a chance for us as the viewer to make up our own mind about what it is we are perceiving. I have met friends who do not like this and would prefer to have most everything they see definable the minute they see it. Like many things abstract art is not for everyone, you have to be willing to let your own life experience and perception connect for a moment with the work. This can be a moment of vulnerability and that often makes people feel uncomfortable or awkward.

These two images were created with the camera. Shooting in the early evening light I shut off my flash and in the low light the camera shutter stays open longer and if I move the camera at the same time I get these great blurred shots. I then put them into the computer over saturate the color and sometimes add other filters to enhance or define line.

I do give names to the images I create, but I won't do that here so they are even less defined. If you would like to see names and more abstracts follow the link below.

Using up scrap wood

In my work I produce a lot of scrap. Odd shaped pieces of wood that are left from the many things I create. Because I spend most of my day working with shapes and fitting them together every shape speaks to me of it's potential. This makes it extremely difficult to throw anything away. So I started putting random pieces together and now I am working on the paint. Not sure what it will look like when it is done, but I will repost it.

A shape can hold a story
it will hold it
until you are ready
to see it,
hear it,
or feel it.

What's With Green?

What's With Green?

I take time now and then, no I steal it or scrap it together to do something I want to do. You see I see things in my head; shapes, lines, color, forms, figures, etc. and I draw them into my books. When I have a moment or feel the need I try and make some of these things real. Here is one of those shapes. The original drawing was just the shape, the color, painting and drawing was added after the shape was cut out of 1/2" wood. Now these are explorations. That's my way of saying I am not yet sure what the meaning of this work is. I just see it as play. I just keep adding what ever I feel. This peice is about 18 inches tall. Below are two close-ups.

A language I've been drawing for years.
I do not know what it means, but
 I feel what it means.

Still Streaming

More time in the woods this past weekend. I love this stream at Locust Lake State Park here in PA. Some how placing still images over video seems fitting. I mean that's real life. We flow along capturing moments and only holding onto a fraction of those moments. Enough, here's the video.

"Still Streaming"

I dig motion
Oh, and I loath motion
It carries me along
until I get snagged on a stick
I love it when I'm flowing on top
The tumbling over and over under the current
just makes me sick.
I really dig motion
and yes I hate it
It brings me to new places
and it wears away at my banks
I am caught up I have direction
and in the same moment I am not in control
motion is
it is
what it is
--------------------------------------------
This is just what I think about when I watch the video or it's what came to me this time any way. Next time who knows?

notion #14

When I look out
I see what is there,
but I also see the other "theres"
I bring with me.
Into each moment comes so many fragments
of moments that have come before.
This leaves me with an increasingly complicated present
That I am trying to make clear,
But I do love the beauty of the confusion.

On the Job

Got an idea while on the job site the other day. It was a great place to grab some random shots on the old camera and later on "art them up".
This one I call "drop cloth" (in Green), It can be any color you want it to be!

This one is called "Moldings in a Pile"

And this last one is called "Pipes". Are you picking up on the construction theme?

We are surrounded everyday by shapes that can be arranged into patterns or is it we are surrounded by patterns that can be arranged into shapes? Could be one or the other or both? I like taking these random images and then turning them 90 degrees until it creates this pin-wheel effect. This seems to enhance these very simple images or at least make them or the overall presentation more interesting. This is all about "play", my mantra. Make sure you are playing with your world. It is the only real way to unlock its secrets and make sense of your presence in it. You are the art you seek!

no time to blog

After a long day at work I have no energy left to articulate creativity, I am just doing it, creating. You do not need to have a plan or a theme or even a reason. Once again I am just messing with photos on the computer because it relaxes me. So here it is the residue of play! Enjoy.

This one is called "plark 44" Hey I don't know why that's what I heard in my head.

And this one is called "Dhali 56" The reasoning of a name is not always related to understanding.

These were both photos of ground, just aiming the camera down and shooting the ground. Of course the ground I shot was the hot springs and thermal pools of Yellowstone National Park. They have great colors.

And here's one more, I'll call "Flower Out"

Spiders Again? notion #11

When I reach the edge
I can do two things.
Turn around and go back the way I came
or leap up and let the wind carry me,
to some place else.

Turning around
is the chance to see what I've seen
from a different perspective.

The leaping is a faith issue
that sets me down
into a whole new situation.

Do I trust the wind?
The hand that carries me into the unknown?

I am making my way back down
the way I came.
a few more trips
and I may choose to ride the wind
I am working on the faith thing.
really I am.

I think this is a Long Bodied Cellar spider in case you were wondering, not sure though. Here is a link to a spider identification chart http://www.insectidentification.org/spiders.asp

Face

In one of my latest posts I cut up a painting and fragmented it. Here I've taken a few photos and cropped the picture not giving you the full shot. I like the feeling this creates.  Faces say so much on there own. I think they are the first thing we learn to read as infants. Below are just some thoughts that come while looking at these images and others I haven't shown you. You can't see everything I see!

I can see you
but never know you completely
I take from you only what I need
a fraction here and there
The memory of your eyes,
the twisting of your mouth
ideas from your words,
inspiration from your actions
to see you completely
is only possible for the creator
besides, If I were to see you completely
it would be too difficult
to go on being myself.
You are a powerful force.
I see it in your face.

Breaking things up

Okay I took the painting from my last post, cut it up digitaly and made it in to multimedia experience. Check it out!

Sometimes looking close at something changes how we see it. Then again sometimes we look to close. The key is to look and look again.

Paint escape

I spent the day doing drywall. That makes me go a little mad. So this evening I took some time to escape into my subconscious painting. If you remember back a few posts I started painting from my subconscious attempting to capture the Jackson Pollock thing. This is where I just start putting paint on big chucks of plywood until I get something to come out of it. This is what I got tonight.

Okay I call it "snag"
Like it?

Then I put the Photo into the computer and Pumped it up a bit. Check it out!

Don't you love the power of digital.
and then again.

Mister Warhol would have loved the digital age. This has totally blown away the drywall blues. Click on the picks to see them a bit bigger.

Fun With Paint!

Okay, okay I'm having fun now. A week ago I watched the movie "Pollock". It's the story of Jackson Pollock that Ed Harris did back in 2000. A very well done film: sad story. Ed Harris must have done lots of prep work on this one because the scenes where he paints are amazing. One of the ideas I got from watching the film was that he worked by trusting his subconscious. It seemed like he would just put color on the canvas and then pull form from it. The relationship the artist had was with the process, at least that's what I was feeling while watching the movie. I need to read more about Pollock's thinking, I got a book around here somewhere.

Most people are familiar with Pollock's dripped work where he put the canvas on the floor and let the paint fall onto the canvas. That was at the end of his carrier, but before that he had more brush contact work.

So watching Ed Harris do his painting I thought I'm going to try this, just start to put the paint on the canvas and find form as it shows it's self to me. So because I have this blog to share my process I now have to be vulnerable and share my first two subconscious works with you. So here they are!
Sorry, but I'm going to keep doing this so you're going to see more of my twisted mind. Enjoy enjoy!! It'll grow on you, no it will!

Look at it this way

"FallenI like to play with perception or is it perspective. I’m not sure, but these two words keep talking to me. I love to take images and duplicate them several times. I then like to change the color of these images so each one is different. I will also add different filters to distort or loose the original clarity of the image.

Why do I do this? It might be because I can.
"Painful color"
Having multiples of the same image and giving them different characteristics, for me, celebrates diversity. I once watched a handful of people walk into a newly created space where one wall had been painted an extremely vibrant color. As you would expect some hated it, some loved it, and some did not even respond to it until asked what they thought. This is why our world will always struggle to achieve harmony. We carry with us emotional cargo (it’s bigger than baggage) that effects our every perceptive moment.
I do not create the multiples in an attempt to make every one happy, but to simply remind myself to always look at everything and or moment from many different points of view.

"Clutch"

Just to make clear this is something I like to do. It is not a new idea.
If you go to the link below you can mess around with controls and change the colors of Andy Warhol’s famous image of “Marilyn”
