Getting There |
Thoughts and reflections on the things I do to seek and nurture the meaning I find in the moments that make up life. It's a whole bunch-a-stuff.

A Vibe
"Picking Up On a Vibe"
Every Line
Between two points
Has something
Like ripples on the water
To say
Straight as an arrow
Every eye
Feasting on light
Will see things
Open wide or closed tight
A different way
The light within may guide you

Tangled in a Memory
tangled in a memory
still reaching to the source,
the source
from which life came,
from which all life comes;
a source so dangerous
that to reach too closely
will end the life it dealt;
we are in the right place
not too close
not too far
where we need to be;
but still we reach
out from the gift
of place that we inhabit
to return
to a memory
to the time we can not remember
when we were the source
we were the light
before we were structure
with spark
we road the solar wind
it is a memory
but not clear
for if it were clear
we would not need to reach
until the day our structure crumbles
and the spark goes home.

To See You
To see you
I have to risk seeing myself
I mean to really see you
To open not only the eyes on my face
But the eyes within my mind
And really see you
I have to be prepared to see who I am
You are a mirror to me
All of you
And this scares me in a way
That I am not yet ready to face
So I will glance at you and smile
And we will leave it at that for now
And when the courage comes
I will try to give it to my eyes
To see you

Random Acts of Light
This image came to be, by me photographing bright lights at night. I talked about this in my post of February 1st, 2010. To achieve the look of this image I applied a filter that reduces the amount of color levels. You are only seeing about eight colors. I then used the smear tool on the lines to create the flame effect.
As it is with everything I like to do, this is mostly play. I guess you could call it practicing a skill if you need to, but if you are constantly being surprised by the efforts you make, it just feels more like play.
In this bizarre image that also started as lights at night, I dropped out color and then put it back in by layering other photos over the black and white image. I find these images fascinating and some what disturbing at the same time. It's like an alien landscape.
I like to put myself into my work. Here I turned one of these random light pictures to a monochromatic blue and then tattooed my self. The key here is play! Playing with any medium you have will allow you to discover directions you may not have been aware of. Jeff acting random

Morning Walk Thought
My thoughts after an early morning walk, remembering early mornings in trees.
I am walking
It is early
The sun is at the tops of the trees
They are lit
Turning on
With every step I take
And corner I turn
The light expands
Downward
I know this place
As a boy
Up early on a Saturday
The branches well worn
Almost polished
That place knew me
The tree strong enough
The boy light enough
I could reach the canopy
And pulling back a branch
And the light would greet me
I am content on the ground now
Waiting in the cool shadow
Not always in a hurry
To get into the light
Into the day
The trees like the early start
The boy did too
The man will walk
Warming slowly
Waiting for the light
To make its way down
Now I need to give this a name.

Okay, I did My Google search for "Light on tree tops" and found a musical artist or group called "Treetops". They are out of the United Kingdom. All the music sounds like it was made up in trees, or it at least sounds like what I hear when I'm in trees. Open your mind now and trip out now http://www.myspace.com/treetopsmusic

Light Play
Here is something fun to do. Take your digital camera, turn off your flash, and find a low light situation. This might be outdoors at night or in a dark room. Look around for focused light sources. LEDs on electric appliances, holiday lights, car head lights (I recommend you do not stand in the road). You just need to avoid areas with flood lights. With your flash off your camera should attempt to lengthen the time of exposure. In the dark it needs more time to capture an image. While you take the picture, move your camera around or side to side. Below is the kind of picture you might get. These are car tail lights and a green traffic signal.
Once you load your pictures into your computer you can use the color wheel or sliders to enhance the color. You might need to read your help menu in your photo edting software to figure this out if you have not done so already. Then try overlapping the light images with other photos for some wild results. Below is the same photo as above with the color changed, intensified and a face dropped in. I love this stuff! Have fun.

Please Note: This photo was taken with a simple point and shoot Nikon. A more advanced
Digital SLR camera will alow you to take much longer exposures and achive even wilder effects.
