Search

"Search"

This new piece is called search. I hesitated to call it that because many of  my works feel like a search. Most of the things I do in my life are a search of sorts. I am always looking for my keys, my wallet, the best way to join two pieces of wood, the most effective route to a destination, the meaning to everything, not to mention a search for self.

Who am I really?

     One Thought:

I am looking
Looking for the moment
I became the line
Not the person holding the pen
But the line the pen made
I am that line
I find myself there
Every time I move the pen
Moved to define
Create shape
Shaded to forge depth
I am the line
Drawing it all together

It doesn't stop there
Because I am also
The color

Pieces of paper I drew on, Why?

No, This is Where it All Comes Together
Thoughts:

I drew on these pieces of paper

and then I glued them on another

piece of paper and made marks and

colored around them. It's like a travel

brochure for different mind-scapes.

I keep looking for that place

the place where everything comes

together and it all makes sense.

All the colors, all the lines, where all

ideas join together and it works.

I think it is what all art searches for.

Maybe it's just me, but I think it's why

we keep making images again and

again. We are seeking the harmony

that we think life dose not possess.

The reality is the harmony is there,

but like the artist we are looking to

closely at life. Pull way back and the

universe has harmony. It has a balance

and a flow.  The problem is we think it is

all about us. I am looking out of these eyes so it's my perspective. The key is to

keep looking, but out of all eyes. There is turmoil, destruction, death, birth, joy

celebration, it's all there and it all has its place, when you let go of you and your

isolationist perspective in it.

Now, Just because I feel this does not mean I know how to put it into practice,

but I am trying. Moment to moment I try to be aware of what I see and how it

impacts me. I am trying not to make others agree with me, but I want to live so

they see I respect who and where they are in this life.

This place of Harmony is at Hand

I need to Step Back into Everything

in order to see it

I will leave this here for now.

It is all made up

"Without a Reason"

 Letting go of I
is not turning off me
It is a change of perception
Another way to see

Letting go of the distance
Between you and I
Awakening to connection
Gone is the constant my

Letting go the judgement
The placing of the blame
For we are one true Nature
All beings of a common name

Letting go the need
To define all moments in time
Allows us one true now
To make this simple rhyme.

Found This Today

 This is my drawing

and this is my photo

I layered them together

some time ago

I have no memory of doing this

but I found it today

I like it

Thought:

I am letting go the structure

that has held me strong.

There is truer strength

in a yellow flower dancing

in the meadow's breeze

Finding Faces

Going Around and Coming Around

When I draw line

I tend to start to see faces.

Some faces I see right away,

Some not until I am done.

Most of the time it is a profile.

Then I add eyes or mouth and nose lines to draw out the character.

This piece seems to have about nine faces or profiles.

See if you find more.

This is a mixed media piece. It started with the leaf-like shapes in the center cut from art paper. They were glued on with clear paint and the water colors washed in around them. I then set to work creating the lines and discovering faces.

Breaking the Frame

Breaking the Frame

I have had this experience before

making something out of a mistake

This piece started as a board I had laid 3x5 cards on to paint

It did not work and left the shadows of 8 -10 cards

I then layered random cut shapes on the board and hit it with spray paint

Removed the shapes and splattered some paint on and let it dry

Took my black and white paint pens and began to draw line

Thoughts from the piece:

-To break apart is not always to be broken

-from brokenness we can find new ways to express

-the boundary of the frame is not always necessary

No One Thing

I am here
and there
approaching from every direction
I am circle
and square
and have randomly placed selection
so that you have no true idea
of my intent
for it is no way sane
this world I represent
take it
crumple it
or do nothing with it at all
or smooth it
and frame it
and hang it on your wall

I call this Image "no one thing"
cause i wrote those words on it
(the one red spot)
when I was creating it.
Not sure why. The poem came from
trying to explain the piece.

Pandemic - Art

So here I am with all kinds of time. Laid off, trying to collect unemployment, told to stay at home, so why thousands of people are suffering and dying all over the world I am in my garage making stuff. Feeling guilty for having no real skill to aid the situation other than the ability to stay put. They are claiming it is the best way to help but it does not feel helpful. So I will continue to cut out chunks of wood cover them with paint and hold on to creativity for those who are fighting for there lives and all the people on the front lines in hopes that someday we can all get back to our dancing, painting, writing, or whatever we/they may do.

"One Moment In the Way"
Wood an Acrylic Paint 22"x13"

The color and shape of life
are there...
obscured by a moment
We did not want,
expect,
or plan for.

I did not realize what I was creating until this was a few steps from completion. Distressed forms blocking vibrant color symbolizing life peaking through. All on a base of illegible scrawling designed to draw out feeling rather than understanding.

sharing an idea

A few weeks ago I got an idea. So I wrote it down in my idea book. Here is what the idea looked like in the book. This idea involved me cutting out random shapes and attaching two of the shapes together to create these free standing figures. I then was going to give them all to a painter friend to paint. In the process of getting them to the painter friend other people saw the cutouts and asked about them. This led to me making them for a variety of
Priming the figures
creative people. This will result in the making of about eight free standing figures who will be cut out given to a variety of people  to paint any way they want and then all come back together to become a single piece representing diversity.
For me this is an exercise in sharing, starting an idea and letting it go where it will. I can't wait, but will, to see them all come back together as a family of self expression. Stay tuned for pictures!
