Morning thoughts

 Thought all this one morning

"Inner Workings"
Do I think well
Can I think well
Will the world hold together
Will I find enough work
Can I make music
Is art real
Does it mater
This is now
When I finish writing
It will be then
Time to push reality
Youth is gone
I am good here
Escape into story
Watch
Read if I could
Do I Have the desire
To Do
I want to give
Give away
Give out
Give life
Let go the hold
Hold Back
Move on
What's real
Everything is new
In every moment
I do not need to be
In every moment
You miss nothing
If some one is there
You are there
If we are one
We are one
The we is I
And the I we
So
I wrote all the songs
Did all the dances
Painted all the pictures
Dreamed all the dreams
Delivered and killed
Everyone
Yes,
Once again
This morning
I am the God
I seek
We are
We are all
Every living thing
God
Just a thought
Gods thought

so I wrote it down - one mornings thoughts

A Town

A town
in mind
in time
in case
in and around
in search of another space
I put color on the paper
then penned in shapes
it made me feel like I had found the place
nowhere in particular
found by forming lines
in a town drawn by me
Imagine what one finds

Above is a word storm. I look at the picture I created and try to write thoughts as fast as I can. I do get stuck sometimes. Trying to make fluid movements between my art work and my writing. I started the artwork to undo writer's block. Then I stopped writing. Now I am trying to find a balance.

as my soul sees me

"as my soul sees me"
Unaware that I am walking around
My soul thinks I float
unaware that I can produce sound
My soul assumes I'm mute
My soul is just aware of all the spaces with in me
and the struggles they posses
Each space holds one conflict
one dilemma, trying to work itself for me out
or one excitation, one elation
Burning to express this myself without doubt.
This is just a fragment of the confusion
with which my soul sees me.

I may write more later and then again may not.

take two

Last June I started a second blog I called "Just Notions," but a week or so after I started it I shut it down. I felt like I didn't have enough time to do it. I moved the idea of "Just Notions" into this blog. Now I still don't have the time, but the fact is I never figured out how to clear it from the internet so it just sat there. From time to time I would think of it and sometimes go to it to see if it was still there. Well it never went away, so I started it up again. I'll just add radom stuff to it when ever I'm in the mood. Just one more place to share images and thought. Here is the link http://www.justnotions.wordpress.com/
It is what it is, no explinations just fragments of thought and image.

the individual again

I am back to viewing the individual as illusion
I walk around
doing the things I do
I place things
I remove this
I change the direction of my focus
I struggle with a physical malfunction
I achieve a new structure
the day moves forward
I think of one of you
then I think of another
You might be far away
but in this moment
when my thought is of you
you're here
the here I have
and I rehearse conversation
you interrupt
even though you're far away
we may argue
or engage in an activity
we never would
you are not here
yet you are all about me
and I about you
to get to just me
seems impossible
I keep taking your picture
is that still you
or am I looking at a distant part of me?
in the picture
you are moving something
lifting it and about to turn
I guess that after the picture was taken
you set that thing down
were you thinking of someone
when the picture was take
while you do what you do
do you think of me
or another
or do you get to just yourself?

-----------------------------------
Okay, What was that?
A Little bit about what I am doing- The writing above, or the mass of words above are "play" on the idea or thought fragment I have of "the individual as illusion". I came across (or pulled out of thought) the phrase a few posts back and I think I may revisit it from time to time, writing what ever comes into my head with out trying to edit it or make sense of it. Sometimes in the creative process I tend to try and think things through before I write. This usually yields very little product. I find it best to just let ideas flow with out trying to understand the end result or the conscious path. I really enjoy this process. More on this in the future.

One Year

Well I have been blogging now for one year. Sharing images sounds and ideas all throughout 2010. I think I'll continue into 2011. Please take the time to visit my other web places listed in the side column. For those of you local to the Philadelphia area be sure to visit the "Playing With The Spirit Coffeehouse" Link. I look forward to continuing to share what I can when I can. Thanks to all who stop by.

turn it around

Sometimes reversing your thinking can help creativity. I just posted a free write on my “just notions” blog (this blog is now closed. See May 26th post on this blog for reprint) that begins with the phrase, “Climbing up from my soul”. So often we search for the soul with in, so in this moment I imaged the soul as something I was in and needed or wanted to come out from. Perhaps we are in the soul instead of the soul being in us. This will allow me to write or create from a different perspective.

Instead of writing about the things you see, be the things you see and write about them looking at you. It’s also fun to think and then write totally out of your character. Try it you don’t have to share it with the world but it will stretch you.
I reached one of the walls of my soul today
It was in a state of decay
The lines on the fungus spoke to me
Of how long it would be
Before I could break through
“Not long now!”
“Soon it will crumble”
“Then you can push through”
I tapped the wood
Still firm
I would wait
For the fungus
To do more damage
Before I push
---------

The work of decay is complicated.
It seems to me like fungus would get a lot more done
If it paid a little more attention to the work
And spent a little less time on appearance.
Pretty don’t get’er done.

Piles of Words

Out through all of this
I find a place I’m not remembering
But I know I saw it first
In a place I was pretending in.
Up against the world I’m standing on
I could go through and just accept
That what I’ve dreamt
Is what I’d rather choose.
But the passing will have a cost
Tear the flesh
Accept the loss
I was born to make my way through
I am out there
Beyond the dead trees
Water up to my knees
The sky burning my hair
No, no, no
It’s not a nightmare
Until you leave
There.
Or do I mean here?

This is another pile of words that should have stayed in the notebook. You look at an image and write whatever comes. At the point I make peace with it, it goes from being an exercise to a finished product. I am finding no peace with this yet, in fact it has brought me more confusion.

Jeff makin' stuff up.

Here is a link to two artists I have been listening to. The first is called St Vincent but the front person is Annie Clark. From very soft to a harsh wall of sound, I love the changes and the thought. Take a listen. The first link is a polished Video -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9prpAv6kvo
The second is more relaxed acoustic - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNKHhJ0pq24&feature=related
Check out Andrew Bird (Violin) as well. They perform together sometimes - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsR0uyPxqxI&feature=PlayList&p=258B16774745F93D&index=21

Crouch Down

This happens to me from time-to-time. I’ll start feeling small and insignificant when I look out across a valley to distant mountains or gaze up into the heavens at night. We somehow tend to look outward and disconnect ourselves from being a part of the vastness and the beauty of it all. Here is a grounding activity, or something I do to gain perspective. I take out my camera, set it on macro and wander around in the backyard. I like to find an area where it feels like not much is going on. This time of year with the end of winter and spring just beginning to pop everything seems a little bland. Just set your camera close to the earth and click away. You should find little worlds that remind you that the universe is under your feet as well as out beyond the stars and that you are a part of someone’s distant vista.
In my blog of January 27th, 2010 I linked to a Native American story called Jumping Mouse. In that story the hero, the mouse, is told to “crouch as low as he can and then leap as high as he can”. I often spend too much of my time leaping to see what is out there, up ahead, down the road, I forget to be and express what I feel right where I am. This is ancient wisdom; I hope some day to make it mine.
Let me take this further and share a few images from the past few weeks as the snow has melted. I’ll add a little writing exercise to the images. What I did here was to look at the images I took out in the yard and write my first line from observations or thoughts that the image gave me. I then put the image aside and tried to quickly continue the phrase with sense or nonsense, whichever came first.

-Looking down into an abandoned flower pot.

Dry and dead at the bottom of a clay pot
I will lay here until the gardener acts
Then I’ll slide free into the compost
To give the power I have left
To a story with out end
I am not just a part of it
I am a part of everything

Green are the bottles that hold spring
I want that to rhyme again with everything
The every and the thing or the thing and the every
Separate they work but together they’re heavy

Now back to the bottles holding spring
Green is the color of so many things
Every of course is black and or white
Based on reflection or absorption of light

The bottles, the bottles holding spring
Break them open let’s get it going
Everything hangs just out of reach
But as soon as it’s done we can head for the beach.

Needles and twigs stuck in ice
Makes me think of beetles and pigs playing dice
And if you were thinking the same
Be sure and leave me your name
For those who think like we do
Know reality not to be true.

I’ll stop there.

For those of you who like to leap real high visit NASAs image of the day.

over, under, around both ways

This is something I do from time to time. I will take an image or object and very quickly (quickly is my choice to keep me from over thinking) record every thought or word that comes into my head onto paper. I recommend you get one of these blank books and tape a photo or a magazine picture or even do your own doodling in it and then write down what jumps at you. never hold back on what comes, just put it down. Below is an example with one of my own photos and two minutes of output time. This is great exercise for both writing and just relaxing.Over, under, both ways around
look and go
know what we have done
wonder, awe
movement, power in cold steel
carried
I have been this way many times before

I have been all these ways.
across, through, below, above
stepping through sky
structure holds and gives
gives as needed
gives passage
I am crossing, over
to a distant point
any point too this
too, to
too moving, going
there
over, under, both ways around

Okay, first of all I do not time myself at this. I am only guessing it was about two minutes. This is one of those process activities. You are not trying to create a product, Just let the words flow out and be random. Our culture is so focused on product we forget to allow the process to have the time it needs and wants. If this was painting I was talking about these would be called studies.
What I am doing is a version of what is called Free Writing, but I've added the image thing to it. Here is a link to a page about Free Writing http://web.mst.edu/~gdoty/classes/concepts-practices/free-writing.html
