On My Knees

I fall to my knees
to know closely the earth,
to gaze into the grass,
deeper into the soil.
I find myself there;
I am of this earth.
The lines of every root
every stem, twig,
or edge of a leaf
are continued
within me,
and I know
I am continued
in them as well.
when I raise my head
to the sky,
I draw the lines
into the heavens,
outline the clouds
connect the stars;
the rays of all the suns
reach down to connect
to me.
On my knees
I humble myself
to be with,
to always strive to be a part
of all the lines,
of the drawing
of creation.

Moment # 17

Dream Quickly the Night is Lost

Photograph of a blanket, a blurred blanket. A still camera triggered while in motion. I love doing this. Every time I do it I hear this voice somewhere in time saying "no, hold it still or you will make it blurry". I'm okay with that.

wake up...

I wake up
step into a motion
there is no clarity
I am putting it together
as quickly
as it comes undone
I am good
with not understanding
I have practiced the state
for all the time
I've known life
I've not uncoverd the why
so I keep on working
the doing
and all its
motion
got good
at being in the motion
good with being
a drip
a blob
a swirl
finding my being
in there
way in there
willing to be
every part
at any given moment
this is where
I
wake up
wake up
wake...

One of my paintings photographed and computer enhanced. Below is the same painting enhanced in several different ways, I lost track of which is the original. Think it is the gray one at the bottom, I will need to find it out in the garage to make sure.

I made you up

I
I made you up. I was alone and the loneliness was relentless, so I made you up. I set everything in place for you to be. Gave you a place to dwell and eyes with which to see me, so you would not feel alone. Your eyes glazed over with all that was and continues to be before you. Sometimes I am not sure you see me anymore.  Nevertheless I am the one who made you up. I dreamed the motion, all the colors, the balance, the agility. I taught you to dance, to sing, to play about the garden. Then you got scared. With all there was to experience you became overwhelmed. You made up rules to bring order and stories that spoke of not being worthy and that you were cast out. I have always loved you and never saw you this way, you have never left the garden. I gave you everything and wanted you to have all the understanding of that everything, for that is who you are. Who we are, you and I and the everything are one. We are the made up and the makers of everything. Do not be afraid!

Okay, Been awhile!

I am
The burning bush
All of life
The flame
It takes
All my strength
To not
Be consumed...

...Perhaps I should not work so hard.

 "I am the burning bush"
Wood cut 17"x 8" paint and ink

This style of sculpture is a product of play. I do not always enter into their creation with an idea. I actually allow the shapes to tell me what they will become. I cut random shapes, sometimes paint them and then move them around on and among each other until I find their story or relationship. The ink line drawing is to symbolize the complexity, it is a non definable  emotional language. I just like lines and shapes.

Following the lines

Line Paintings - I have been doing these line paintings as a study and a form of meditation. The study is for gaining more control of the paint brush. The meditation comes from trying not to put to much thought into my next stroke but to just let the lines and dots and dashes fall where they may. I have done this style of drawing for many years, but now I am trying it with the brush.

The above painting is about 48"x 32" to the left is 32"x 32" The one below is much smaller only 12"x 12".
As I have said before when I think to much about how something should be I often never get around to doing it. This kind of art experience allows me to break from that thinking and just place line and shapes one after another until a space is filled and then step back to realize now I have something.
