Over and Over Again

I like playing with stuff.
If you read my blog you
already know that.

I took this fella from out
of my head. Once I scanned
him in to the computer
I worked on his hair

He was just a black and white line drawing so I
gave him color.

Then another color

and then another
and yes there's more

But this is enough for now

Each time I blend the drawing
with a different background
I get a little different feeling.
I like doing it and when I
can figure out why
I'll tell you.

Now some words that the
pictures give me
--------------------------
"We make oureselves
into dreams
someones dream
We don't always find
the someone else
who is dreaming of us
so we keep on
remaking the self
so a dreamer may
find us
and we can finally be
the person of someones
dream "

If you go back in my archive Michael  first appeared on March 25, 2010 That was about the time of his drawing.

just notion # 6

I'm not sure
but I might be living your life too
I have all these feelings about you
they make it hard to move around
these feeling are like streamers
trailing behind me
oh they are useful
they lead me back to you
but they also tangle
with all the other lives and feelings
I come across
I am not sure where
I begin or end
I carry and loose feelings
every where
I know I should be more organized
more like you
maybe I am
you
and I am watching me
thinking
he needs to be more in touch
with his feelings.

My First Music Video

Every sky that looks down
On every child waking up
Knows the seasons hold secrets
that they long to give up
Oh Everything
belongs with me

Back on April 16th my post was the lyrics of a new song titled "Everything". It was not until May that I had a chance to record me performing it at the monthly coffeehouse I run. It was a one camera recording that just sat still while I sang. So needless to say the video was very boring by today's standards. With the magic of the computer I was able to zoom in and out on the single shot and added some of my photos to create bizarre motion effects.

Now for the idea behind the lyric. This is simply, okay not that simple, my attempt to stand before the vastness of the universe and all of existence as I am aware of it and claim that I am not a "lost soul swimming in a fish bowl" but that I am where I belong and that life as it is is the way it is to be for the moment. It is about accepting the confusion and that you can seek understanding but you do not need to understand everything. This song is the first song I've created with a new style of writing I have been practicing where I do not attempt to understand how all the parts (individual words, lines and /or verses) fit together. It is about learning to trust my subconscious mind as the writer. I could keep going on and on with all my thoughts on this but just listen to the song and take from it what you will. Embrace your confusion!

To see the lyrics to this song jump back to the April 16th archive. Note - the words at the end that are not on the lyric sheet are just whatever comes to me making each version of the song different each time. This was only the songs second time out so I hope as I have more chances to sing it I'll get a little more confident with it.

just notion #5

Am I keeping you at bay?
Holding you away
Arms length
Maybe further
I work at this
It is a skill
To keep you all in a place
Out of my face
Across a room
I track your movement
I sense your heat
Moving still
It’s not that I want it this way
I have dreams and memories of the day
We moved with
With in and through
One another
When there was no me
And/or you
No separation
No individual navigation
One
But that overwhelms me
In this form now.
leaves me wondering how
I get back there
no
just step back
please

Lines and Spaces

All winter I have been coming and going from a large furniture project that has at times overwhelmed my level of woodworking skill. This is good. It is good to be challenged. The fun part of the job has been the accent on the side panels of the furniture I am creating. I'll be sure to post pictures in the future of the finished products.

For years my thing has been to find ways to put a bit of organic-ness into every wood structure I create. Okay yes, how much more organic can you get than working in wood in the first place? What I am talking about is that I really do not enjoy straight line I prefer irregular and non symmetrical. If you look at my portfolio you'll see what I mean. I can do the square and true work and it's wonderful, but I am happiest running my jig saw through a large piece of plywood with no line to follow just popping out abstract it is extremely freeing.

This image is a sample I did of the accent that will adorn the furniture when it is complete

Now with this furniture project I am playing with line and space. the cuts add a fluid accent to an otherwise square piece of furniture. There is this feeling of movement, growth or change. There is a positive or negative to it depending on your experience and perspective. You might see growth as something pregnant or expanding, bringing new life or you may see a tumor, an invader of a destructive nature. Either way the accents on these pieces of furniture will reflect the natural world, as was my intent.

These images show a chair back and a closeup of the same back before it has been sanded and finished. The lightest wood is Ash. The mid tone is oak and the dark is Walnut.

This shows a more defined accent in the same style finished. to see more of this follow the link to my web.   http://www.jkcwood.com/Bigoak.html                        Jeff in the sawdust
